VPN = Virtual Private Network

E' una rete virtuale implementata normalmente su una rete publica (ma non solo) che viene realizzata tramite protocolli che prevedono anche la cifratura dei pacchetti (es. IPsec, PPTP) ed altre funzionalita' per implementare la connessione.

Praticamente fai transitare del traffico in maniera "sicura" su una rete che non e' considerata tale.

VPN è una tecnologie che permette di connettere un host ad una LAN attraverso, per esempio, Internet. In questo modo l'host può utilizzare la Lan remota come se vi fosse fisicamente collegato e quindi utilizzandone le risorse e tutto il resto.
