ma non solo quella del mips, bensì anche la x86, la IA-32 e 64 ...

Ma per il compitino di domani tirando le somme le cose pratiche da saper fare a parte la CPU sono:

- le cache trovare l'indirizzo
- calcolo dei tempi di trasferimento
- gestione I/O - a controllo di programma, polling, interrupt e DMA
- valutazioni prestazioni di calcolo
- valutazioni prestazioni di memoria

poi tutto il resto è teoria giusto?

perchè nell'esercizio a pagina 505 calcola il numero di bit per i tag senza togliere i 2 bit di offset?

Non so di che esercizio tu stia parlando, ma il tag mi pare si calcoli sempre in sta maniera : 32 - log2 capacita' ... Senza togliere nessun bit.

non ho la tua edizione del testo ma , che io sappia, i 2 bit di byte offset vanno sempre contati.

A meno che, per assurdo, non si usi una cache con blocchi di un byte
