Per sostituire il consoleinputmanager basta importare java.io e creare questo oggetto:
BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));

i metodi readint,readchar,readdouble non esistono, per cui se vuoi leggere un double devi fare na roba del genere:

double dbl = Double.parseDouble(in.readLine());


Per leggere da file (va importato java.io) bisogna creare questo oggetto:
BufferedReader bfr=new BufferedReader(new FileReader("conf.txt"));

e poi leggerne il contenuto con un while, una cosa del genere:
while((s=bfr.readLine()) != null) {
i++;
arr[i]=Integer.parseInt(s);
}

s é una stringa vuota, e qui ogni numero contenuto nel file viene messo in un array di int

per la lettura da tastiera basta semplicemente fare

char c;
System.out.println("questa riga non è obbligatoria");
c = (char) System.in.read();

e c avrà il carattere immesso
c è variabile char e quindi prende solo la prima lettera immessa.

un programmino che ho fatto, molto idiota, per far capire come gira la cosa
