HELSINKI/LONDRA (Reuters) - Una parodia finlandese del classico della fantascienza "Star Trek" sta arrivando dove il film non era mai arrivato prima, con la distribuzione gratuita su Internet che ha raggiunto oltre 450.000 spettatori in meno di una settimana.

"Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning" è stato realizzato tutto in finlandese con sottotitoli in inglese in ben sette anni da un gruppo di studenti e altri amatori di film con un budget ridottissimo e computer casalinghi per la realizzazione degli effetti speciali.

"Abbiamo deciso di non uscire nei cinema, e il film è stato realizzato sostanzialmente come forma di volontariato", ha detto Timo Vuorensola, che ha diretto la pellicola. "Attraverso Internet e i dvd avrà probabilmente una visione molto vasta. Speriamo di raggiungere un milione di download entro la fine dell'anno".

Il successi di "Star Wreck" arriva mentre Hollywood lotta con la minaccia e l'opportunità rappresenta da Internet. Gli studios cinematografici sono consapevoli della pirateria che mette in pericolo l'industria del cinema, ma allo stesso tempo sperano che l'uso di internet possa tagliare i costi di distribuzione e aprire la strada a nuovi mercati.
