Abstract del seminario:
Marketing Program: Open Source
Primary Audience: Practitioners and Database Administrators
Discipline Addressed: Technical and Business
The need for Web application solutions built on an open source stack have
driven open standards for Web applications since the Internet gained popularity
in the mid-1990 s. The Apache HTTP Server has been the most popular Web
server on the Internet since April of 1996, validating the viability of open
source software. Derby, also from Apache, is an open source, open standard
database. This pure Java, small footprint, easy to use, secure database
provides the functionality of a modern relational database while adhering
to JDBC and ANSI SQL standards. Its Usage can be as a fully embedded database
within an application or as a client/server database engine with its optional
network server that allows Derby to support networked JDBC, ODBC/CLI, Perl,
and PHP applications.
This briefing explores the simple installation and implementation options
of Derby as well as the robust Web application development environment of
Eclipse and related plug-ins. Additionally we will examine the open source
solution stacks of Linux/Windows, Apache, Derby, and PHP. Other topics include
Web application development using commercial open standards based products
such as IBM s Cloudscape, DB2, and Rational Web Developer. IBM s DB2 Universal
Database Express Edition V8.2 is the lowest priced full function relational
database, featuring self-tuning and self-configuring autonomic capabilities
for ease of manageability on Linux or Windows platforms. IBM s Rational Web
Developer provides an advanced, Eclipse-based, functionally rich Web application
development environment.
Agenda:
90 min. Introduction
Overview of IM in the SMB space
Cloudscape
15 min. Break
135 min. Database applications using Eclipse
DB2 Express and Everyplace
DB2 and Rational Web Developer
Developer Resources and Call to Action
Note: All times in the agenda are just for approximation purposes only.
