 [Gentoo] - Dubbio su configurazione grub

Ciao leggendo il file "grub.conf.sample" mi è sorto un dubbio, nel mio file grub.conf devo aggiungere le righe :

root (hd0,0) e setup(hd0) perchè grub-install funzioni ?

Vi chiedo ciò perchè ogni volta il comando grub-install non mi funziona e devo farlo a manina...

vi metto il mio file grub.conf :

Quando lanci #grub-install non serve nessun file di configurazione.
grub-install non fa nient'altro che installarti Grub nei primi 512byte del disco (master boot record). Se poi avvii la macchina senza nessun file di configurazione (grub.conf) ti dirà qualcosa tipo "operating system not found".

Io dopo aver subito un paio di brutte esperienze, ora come ora mi guardo bene dall'installare sia Grub che LILO sul MBR dell'HD: li installo sul supeblock della partizione di boot di linux affinchè lavorino come bootloaer, e come boot manager uso questo:

che non mi ha mai dato problemi.
il bello è che uno può intallarlo su floppy, provare se va bene, e poi installarlo sul MBR.
